What is Zed Saids About?

A Tribute to Zed Day, Jr.

Zed Saids began as a small corner of the web where I could share the writings of Zed Day, Jr. He loved to write — mostly short poems — but also reflections about people he cared for and places that mattered to him.

It didn’t take long to realize I wanted this space to be more than just his writings. I wanted it to be a place to share anything that captured who he was, or something he loved.

Zed was my grandfather — known as “Boppy” to some of the grandkids. Over the years, I somehow ended up with many of his belongings. Rather than keeping them tucked away in a box in the garage, it felt right to give them a home where everyone who knew and loved him could enjoy them — and even add to them.

Anyone who knew Zed, has a story. He had a way of making people feel happy just by being around him. He was also a bit of a philosopher and a natural storyteller. He loved a good saying and used them so often that he became “famous” for them among friends and family (you’ll see a few of those well-known sayings in the banner art).

My hope is that anyone who visits this little spot will smile while reading the stories and looking through the photos. He would have loved that.
And I truly look forward to hearing from others who have their own memories — and maybe even photos — to share.

Zed the Omar Man

Zed as an Omar Man

This was an advertisement in the Oct 16th, 1949 edition of The Indianapolis Times.

I remember him talking about his Omar bread route days a lot when we were kids. He really enjoyed being "The Omar Man".

The ad says:

"Zed Day is a good man to know, because he can save you lots of valuable time!

Yes, as an Omar Man, he delivers delicious Omar Bread and Pastries-fresh from the Omar ovens- right to your door!

And Zed says, "Tomorrow I will be carrying a feature item, Omar Frozen Apple Pie for only 55 cents."

Zed is married, has two youngsters- and is a real booster for this community!
